How to unlock Your Vehicle

Locate the battery hatch and ensure it is set to "open." Use a flathead screwdriver, coin or another similar tool to turn the hatch wide. Then, carefully remove the battery by lifting the side closest to the hook for the key-ring. Wear rubber gloves to shield the electronic contact surfaces.

Insert the new battery into the socket after the older one is removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing up and that it is placed within all clips. Slide the cover toward the key-ring section until it is loose and is able to slide off. Take off the cover to reveal the hidden key blade. It can be used to unlock your car from the driver's seat if you have lost or damaged the key fob.

After you have opened the fob, you can locate and remove the CR 2032 3V battery. Place a new battery in its place, and join the fob.

Note: Some older Volvos use a different battery, Volvo Replacement Key Fob the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have an average thickness of 7 tenths one millimeter lower than a CR2032 and you'll have to be very careful when replacing your battery.
